Giving thanks on Thanksgiving

In the spirit of North American Thanksgiving, I wanted to take some time out to reflect on the last year and really think about the things that I am grateful for in my life. So, in no particular order, here is my top 3.

1. Family and friends

As I get older, I realise more and more how important it is to stay connected with your family and friends and not to take them for granted. I recently took a trip down memory lane to attend my 10 year high school reunion in Sydney – while I enjoyed catching up with old familiar faces, I also ended up spending most of the week bumming around home with my parents and siblings – just because I missed them! I’m also so lucky to be able to work with my best friend of 16 years on this Lifestyle Lookbook project, which I would not have been brave enough to start on my own.

Family photo! Well, after being best friends for 16 years, we're practically family anyway.

2. My job and being in Asia

I work as an aviation finance lawyer – so I get to think about planes a lot, which also triggers my inner travel bug. I’m thankful for my job which enables me to bankroll my next vacation plan :) I moved from Sydney to Singapore for my job, and to be honest, it was difficult to get used to being in a new place and working as an expat. I think I only really began to enjoy it after a year of being abroad – and what I’ve come to appreciate most of all is the shorter travel distances and the ability to get away on weekend trips around Asia so easily (think Hong Kong, Bangkok, Koh Samui, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Bali and more on your doorstep!).

3. The hubby

He is my travel buddy and sometimes my travel agent (and the Hyatt’s number one fan). It’s a far cry from my solo adventures through Montreal, Boston and New York during my student days, making hostel bookings and meeting like-minded wanderers at the most random of places. While I will always treasure those days of reckless abandon and freedom, I’m thankful now for the thousand thread-count beds, spas and massages, and luxury shopping expeditions which I wouldn’t have had before.

For those who are travelling home for Thanksgiving, safe travels and stay stylish!
