Affordable Art Fair

This week I attended my first Affordable Art Fair in Singapore (17-19 April 2015). It is a much anticipated annual event on the Singapore social calendar, so if you missed it this time round, there is always next year!

The concept behind the Affordable Art Fair is simple - it aims to bring the enjoyment and collection of art to the masses. With a wide range of artists exhibiting from all over the world, as well as from local galleries, there are paintings, sculptures and photographs to suit all kinds of tastes and budgets (ranging from the equivalent of EUR 50 to 5,000).

It was literally like walking through a series of art galleries, but with the option to purchase any piece which caught your eye.

In addition to the art on show, the Affordable Art Fair also featured demonstrations and hands-on workshops by and with various artists. Unfortunately I didn't get to attend any of them, but for those who are keen to participate, I would recommend checking out the website for the daily schedule.

Overall, it was a really fun and different night out! My top tips would be to purchase tickets online (SGD 20 online versus SGD 25 at the door) and to plan ahead for any presentations or workshops that you are interested in attending (many of these are free of charge).

For our readers in Hong Kong, the Affordable Art Fair is heading your way next, with the Hong Kong Affordable Art Fair taking place from 22 to 24 May 2015.

xx Amanda
