Brunch at Catalunya, Singapore

Weekend brunch is wildly popular in Singapore, and as the hubby and I were hosting a friend from overseas, we opted for brunch at Spanish restaurant, Catalunya. Situated next to the Fullerton Bay Hotel, the restaurant offers a wonderful view of Marina Bay Sands.

With a buffet spread of cheese, charcuterie, bread, salads and fish to begin with, you have to pace yourself for the three hour marathon brunch on offer. I particularly liked the avocado salad, the roast beef and the caprese salad with fresh mozzarella, but having been to brunch at Catalunya before and failing to make it to dessert, I was determined to exercise more self-restraint at the beginning and build up to the sweet finale.

On top of the buffet and set menu items, you can also order sandwiches (the bikini sandwich with Iberico ham, cheese and truffle is delicious) and estrellados (fried or scrambled eggs on a bed of potatoes, served with your choice of chorizo, mushrooms and ham). These items are also on the dinner menu at Catalunya and highly recommended!

Throughout the meal, the restaurant staff will theatrically announce and serve each table with seafood paella, "catch of the day" (sea-salt crusted fish), and the piece de resistance, the "Segovian style" suckling pig. The music is loud, the staff are boisterous and the cheerful atmosphere is infectious. The suckling pig is always accompanied by a smashing of plates, which adds some dramatic flair to the service.

To complete the meal, dessert is brought out last, with servers bearing plates of chocolate cake, lemon meringue tarts, macarons, fresh fruit and other sweet treats to show off to the guests before being placed at the buffet.

The desserts are very good here, my favourites being the peanut butter macaron and the decadent mud cake. Finish with a coffee and I feel I could roll straight back to bed.

Brunch here will cost you SG$98++ for food (and unlimited cranberry and orange juice), and for an extra SG$48++ you have free flow cava, cocktails, tea and coffee.
