Mothers Day and High Tea at The Peninsula, Hong Kong

This year the hubby and I had to be content with wishing our mums a Happy Mothers Day through Skype. In previous years though, one of my favourite things to do with my mum is high tea, the most memorable being at The Peninsula, Hong Kong.

For those who are keen to try this famous high tea (in the most gorgeous setting), I would highly recommend arriving early as the queues can be horrendous (and the hotel does not take reservations). Afternoon tea is served from 2.00 to 6.00 pm daily at The Lobby. We ended up having to queue for around 40 minutes, but if you go in a group, you can rotate with one person being in the queue while the others ogle the luxurious boutiques located in the hotel's Shopping Arcade (including Chanel and Harry Winston, to name a few).

Bottom tier: Scones
Middle tier: An assortment of savoury treats
Top tier: An selection of cakes and sweets
Club sandwich
We tried the Peninsula Classic Afternoon Tea, which comes with three tiers of savoury and sweet pastries, finger sandwiches, scones and cakes. We also ordered one of The Lobby's signature dishes, the club sandwich. While the food was very good, I think we were more in awe of the beautiful interior of the hotel, with its high, gold-trimmed ornate ceilings, chandeliers and palm trees. The hotel prides itself in being the hallmark of luxury, and afternoon tea in this setting certainly feels decadent.

I hope all mothers are being treated to something special today, and a big thank you to my mum and my mother-in-law for their unconditional love and support!

xx Amanda
